The Dragon's Comments continued June 3 2011

Comments about Harold Meyerson’s article “Republicans continue to be their own worst enemy” (2 June 2011)
Mr. Meyerson writes that the republicans are dooming themselves by following up on their electoral promises of 2010. To the Washington class mindset, that may appear to be so, but to conservative voters, the republicans should be doing more of the same. After briefly discussing “Paul Ryan’s gutting of Medicare” and how that impacted the NY26 special election using the term “political calamity” he plunges into the governorships and their falling approval ratings. In Mr. Meyerson’s world, when a republican governor comes to power on a platform of conservatism and then pursues policies accordingly, they should immediately abandon them when the approval ratings go down. It is interesting that the author would encourage republicans to moderate to save their re-election chances. I do not believe for a second that he would endorse any of those that he mentions should they follow his advice.
